Xu Chen

Xu Chen (b. 1999, Fujian) currently lives and works in Beijing. He received his MFA from the Sculpture Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2025.

His practice often begins with subtle deviations in everyday experience that are difficult to name. By situating himself within the interstices where nature and the man-made become entangled, he explores how the body is drawn, constrained, penetrated, and transformed by the world. He regards the human being as part of a broader field of material relations. By compressing experience, sensation, and material relations into topological structures, his work seeks to generate new perceptual connections between bodies, artificial objects, and natural entities across different scales, while probing the space that remains for human subjectivity within such complexity.
