Joana Galego Catalogue

Published by EY PROJECTS, this publication brings together Joana Galego’s recent paintings alongside selected works from her broader practice, offering a view into the artist’s evolving exploration of intimacy, vulnerability, displacement, and connection.

At the center of Galego’s practice is an ongoing attention to the emotional spaces between people: moments of solitude and uncertainty, the desire for closeness, and the fragile possibilities of being understood. Her figures rest, play, embrace, or remain partially hidden within parallel worlds suspended from the pace of everyday life. Through intimate portraits and immersive compositions, Galego creates scenes that appear fleeting yet psychologically charged, holding moments of tenderness, tension, and anticipation in suspension.

The publication includes works presented in her 2026 solo exhibition To Climb the Night and Find at EY PROJECTS, alongside paintings from different stages of her practice. Together, they trace a movement from earlier reflections on guilt, displacement, and the limitations of language toward a growing sense of acceptance, care, and connection—revealing an artistic practice continually searching for ways to negotiate the distance between the self and others.
