ABOUT

Xu Ziyun (b. 1991, Shanghai) lives and works in Shanghai. She earned her MFA from the Oil Painting Department of the China Academy of Art in 2016 and recently completed her Ph.D. in Fine Arts at the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts in 2024. Her artistic perspective has been profoundly shaped by cross-cultural experiences, including an art research trip to the United States in 2012 and an artist residency at Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris in 2014. Xu employs diverse materials such as gauze, mirrored surfaces, and sand to construct works that enact an archaeological gaze upon urban architecture through a visual language of temporal-spatial folding. By layering fragmented landscape vignettes, her practice reconstructs historical memory and spatial power dynamics, revealing the cultural hybridity and temporal duration embedded within the urban fabric.

Her SOLO EXHIBITIONS include :

"The Fluid Sanctuary", Aurora Art Museum, Shanghai, 2023; "Between Inside and Outside", Banana Art Space, Nanjing, 2021

Her GROUP EXHIBITIONS include:

"Beyond and Endogenous", Jinian Art Center, Hangzhou, 2025; "Speakers on the Boundary", Yi Space, Nanjing, 2024; "The Skin of Images", Chuji Art, Ningbo, 2024; "Signature Move", Yili Space Y, Shanghai, 2023; "Flow", CPSPACE, Shanghai M50, 2023; "Re-creation of Jiangnan" 'Variations | Young Art since the New Millennium', Nanjing University of the Arts / Yixing City Art Museum, 2022; "Moving Towards Each Other", China Academy of Art Art Innovation Promotion Exhibition FutureLab, Shanghai West Bund Dome Art Center, 2021.
